I'm after some information of what specific rollingstock did KATY use preferably in the john derre green? I know they had 50 foot boxcars and 3 bay hoppers. what else did MKT utilise? I'm hoping to have a full MKT unit train operational on my layout.

The Katy repainted a lot of there equipment MKT Green. Eveything from gondolas to cabooses. There are a lot of after market products in green. But keep in mind that the Katy mixed red and green all the time. Including box car brown. And also yellow every now and then. If you look at Katy photos you will see what I mean.

    Merry Christmas

Well, like you mentioned, Katy had a lot of 3-bay and 2-bay ACF hoppers as well as some PS cov.hoppers. They had 50-ft gons and open hoppers as well. (for rock...I actually saw a 50-foot MKT gon on a UP rock train a few weeks ago.) Probably one of the coolest MKT cars in the later years was a TOFC rebuild from a boxcar, similar to the ATSF cars like M-T does...but not that similar. They were yellow. I'll try to drag out some MKT pics and post them.

As far as a true unit train, I don't think MKT really had any exept for grain trains and rock trains but with a hodgepodge of cars. They did have the Halstead unit coal trains they received from BN in Texas, with FPPX and LCRX hi-side thrall gons...so not really MKT equipment.

But unit trains to the Katy were never always there own cars, They ran grain trains, the later Texas Specials (tofc/cofc) 1&2 were a little katy and lot of others and same with grain trains.
