I most likely have at least a half dozen of the units. Been awhile since I have taken one of those units apart, if I remember right the shell is just a press fit. Spread the sides using a small screwdriver and the shell will come off the frame. Those units I have are maybe 10-15 years old. In their time they were good running units, but nothing to compare to any modern KATO, ATLAS, BACHMANN(Spectrum) and some LIFE-LIKE engines. They still run okay, but they have a real high starting speed, and only really run good with 3, 4, or 5 of the same units together, they don't want to MU with KATO, ATLAS etc. I have not even tried to put a DCC decoder in any of them, since it would be a real pain in the tail to try to isolate the motor from the frame.
