Does anyone have the measurements of Milwaukee Road electronic bells that they used on a bunch of their diesels? I want to make some but not sure how big they are. Thanks Steve
I had no measurements, but I did build some for a pair of SD45's I did for Boxcab E50. I think I used .010 x .030" styrene strip and .030" rod, with .005" brass rod cobbled together. I bashed and tweaked until it looked somewhat right. The end result looked good:
What one are you seeking? There were two styles used. The version as pictured by Hemi, which was the first. Then the type which had squared ends. Looking like a modified horn. Boxcab E50
The first type is what I was looking for. I want to make some for my F45's that I am doing. ( I know they didn't have any F45's but they should have). Who made the all weather windows? thanks
As far as I know, nobody makes them in N scale. Those pictured were custom made. They are available in HO scale. So perhaps we will eventually have some in N. The all weather windows are some I had carefully hoarded, having bought his remaining few in inventory. They are Loco Motives #2020. Which that company is long out of business. Boxcab E50
If you can find them JNJ trains makes an etched brass all weather window. They have several different styles but are hard to come by. I think BLMA also makes some etched brass all weather windows that might be more readily available.
Thanks guys. Thought you guys might like this from Intermountain. "The Milwaukee Road ribside boxcar in N scale will probably be done next year " Mind you this may take a few years but I can't wait. This will be really sweet if they make them. This came from Jerry Harkness Customer Service Representative at Intermountain. Steve
Cool! Any hints as to it being a 40 footer? Or 50? Am hoping for a 40... So many potential varieties in that size... Boxcab E50
Sounds like the 40 footer. Just like the HO ones they are doing. I also asked about the 60' PS1 in N scale. He said there are no plans on doing these. I asked if they are going to do the F units in the orange and black too. Said they are looking into it, but no plans as of yet. Might just have to paint these myself. Steve
Also Gold Medal Models 160-61 has several styles as well. BLMA made solid clear resin castings at one stage. And as Ken mentions, Loco-Motives did have a very fine (and fragile) injection molded 2-pane all-weather window. Ken, the other style of air whistle that Milw used, was it a Hancock 4700? I think Sunrise did these at one point.
That's how i feel about almost everything in model trains. Such as CP FP45s, GN SD60s, (x UP), and GN U50s (also x UP)..
They used two styles of electronic bells. Both made by Prime. PM-516, as on those SD45 Hemi did. Then they switched to the PM-733. For the horns, I cannot find a specification. Thought I had that info... Boxcab E50
No, but there's photos to be had off the net to make one. My guess would be to start with a square styrene rod, and file it to a point, add the base,a nd cobble it together. Drill a tiny hole in the bell end, to simulate the bell being hollow?
