Argh! I do have a few things accumulated, and certainly available to share. But..... Fear that I can't help with many questions. Wish I could.... Boxcab E50
My wife would banish me to our basement. Well, that might not be all bad. There's a lot of train stuff down there... Boxcab E50
Dirk- Interesting view from the barge. Most pictures I've seen from there, someone was standing up on the old overpass. Have never seen evidence, nor heard of these being found out on Lines West. Believe they all stayed back east. Probably all in places such as the Twin Cities, Milwaukee, Chicago, Kansas City. Barge loading ops that I saw, were using idler cars. Such as old log cars, flats, gondolas. Boxcab E50
Mike- Any progress with this project? Would be fun to see if you something on your work bench. Boxcab E50
Here's a photo of a transfer caboose that I scratch built quite a few years ago. It was before the Milwaukee Caboose books came out. I may have to give it another try with all the good info now available.
Here's a picture of mine. It's a modified Moleaco kit on a Athearn's 40' flat car, also added brass steps.
I never thought that the hose house would overshadow my transfer caboose!! I seen that house in an old Milwaukee Railroader mag. I belive it was in the Bensenville yard in Ill. The story said that most yards had hose houses scattered around in case of fire. So my Portage yard has four different kinds sitting in it. The original design for the house came from the SP. This design was built to actualy hold a whole hose cart and hydrant and not just a reeled hose.
