When we are building our layouts we have little mile stones that mark a certain length of progress or goals in the construction of our model railroads. For me the first was finishing the round house and my most resent was finishing the “ Erie Hotel “.

I have been modeling the DAV&P ( Dunkirk Allegany and Pittsburgh )in G scale. This was a branch line that ran from Dunkirk NY. to Titusville PA. . Having walked her now abandoned Wright of ways and discovering the history of this busy little local short line has been a lot of fun.

When I started this dream project, I had 2 goals in mined.
1). One was to change the image that most people had of G scale. I wanted to get red of that “ Shiny Toy like look “ that was associated with G scale.

2). Then Early on when I got my first G scale Battery operated remote control G scale set by Bachman, I could see the possibility and detail that could be achieved in G scale. These could be real models to!

So in my quest to capture the look and feel or the personality of the DAV&P began a great adventure. I wanted to capture the main land marks of the railroad. So when a visitor who had seen the real DAV&P would say , “ Hay I remember that!”.

So I have hit the second mile stone / mark of my model railroad. The Erie Hotel was the end of the Erie Railroad here in Dunkirk. It was also the fist station on the DAV&P and the DAV&P kept there headquarters in the Erie Hotel in Dunkirk.

The first picture shows an old postcard of the Erie Hotel and the rest of the photos show my rendition of the Erie Hotel.
