is there a way or place i can search a list of legacy products by MT? im specifically trying to hunt down if they ever made a Railbox car (in the yellow with the big railbox titles) with RBOX, UP, or SP numbers...all i see most widely available is Missouri pacific (MP)

I think you are looking for the old railbox logo style aren't you? If so it is going to cost you a pretty penny as these were made under the Kadee line back in the 70's. I had a friend of mine buy one at a swap meet for $15 and it ended up being a $800! Good score for him!

On the Micro-Trains website, they have a database for all their rolling stock from the very beginning including the Kadee Micro-Trains stuff but for some reason not the runner packs. (Micro-Trains Databases) I like to download the Excel version so I can sort it. This is what they list with the RBOX reporting mark:

My friend Tim paid $15 for it @ a swap meet. And according to the collector book the same car went @ high auction for $800! So he scored big time! The only reason he bought it was because he likes Railbox. He had no clue that it was worth so much. I was @ a swap meet 3 weeks ago and there was a guy that had a Railbox with a $595 price tag on it. So like I said. I am sure if ti is the older version you are looking for I am sure it will cost you a pretty penny.

I had a same similar situation at the swap meet I mentioned 3 weeks ago. I bought a 40ft Kadee boxcar for $12 and high auction value is $143. I didn't need the car, but I knew it was worth a pretty penny so I bought it.

holy cow $800?? i would never pay that much for anything as useless as a plastic train haha sorry to all railroaders here =P but its true. that $800 could buy me a trunkload of food.

im looking for the one with the new logo actually. the one thats showing up here in this google search
    missouri pacific railbox - Google-Suche

but it would be nice if it were SP or UP or the standard RBOX. some of those in that list dates back before i was born lol. i guess they never did the SP or UP. my only option could be just intermountain and maybe roundhouse for those. i havent seen a RBOX one surface yet...

i correct myself...there are a handful of RBOX ones on ebay. even at these prices i still need to save my lunch money haha

basically i just want all my railboxes without opening doors (to keep it cheap) and just run one that has opening doors...which is why i want a MTL

or for you railbox experts, when they were restenciled and patched with SP or UP or other roadnames...were the numbers the same? maybe i can just take the MP stuff and just redecal it.

The last Railbox MT model (besides the runner pack) was 025 00 500 (road number 357372) released in Oct 2006 which is why that model is the most available. In the past ten years, MT has only done three releases in the Railbox scheme (not including the runner pack). A Google search of the MT model number (which I find to be a much more precise way to search once you have it) leads to this image which shows they patched both the reporting mark and the road number.

A check of my copy of this model reveals operating doors. I don't think operating doors are going to affect the price that much either way. If you are stuck on getting MT, I would recommend you search for the runner pack as some dealers might still have it available and it has "RBOX" reporting marks. Try searching "Micro-Trains 993 33 015." If you really want to save some money, I would recommend you avoid MT because of the "collector effect." Intermountain has done several Railbox releases (67502 and 67509) including a Montana Rail Link patch (67518).

Athearn and ExactRail also have or are in the process of doing Railbox releases.

yea i just want one MTL railbox, the rest can be whatever. i do plan on waiting till the price is right for the "other" ones i will get which means probably until i go to the next train show around here. MTL is a must though, again, at least one. runner pack is just too pricey for me.

now as for the yellow color, im not sure what is accurate to the model, i really dont like that bright yellow, love the more orangey muted yellow of MTL, just judging by the pics

They is what they is. The 1:1 scale ones are a bright yellow, as are the models. Weathering will tone down the color.

You can probably find the older roundhouse cars cheap at train shows or eBay. Roundhouse did several releases of them on different body styles, original and new paint schemes as well as patched reporting marks.

yea i dont mind the coupler debate. kato, accumate, mts, all work for me since i dont have a huge layout or super long consists. perfectly fine here picking up my cars to couple them haha

i think im going to wait till the next train show here in july to nab these. for now i will just save my pennies.

800??!?!?! How about a undec MT + airbrush + compressor + paint + decals. Still cheaper than 800. The reason our prices are getting outrageous is people would pay outrageous prices. If people wouldnt buy it the prices would fall quickly!!!
