Here's a quick shot of a project that I started last year. It's just a small diorama based on NdeM's Linea S between Veracruz and Mexico City. This is the crossing of Rio Atoyac and the short canyon leading to the town of Atoyac, Veracruz - at the base of the climb through the Sierra Madre.
Nice-looking scene. Do you have any scenes with indicators of the Mexican location (besides locomotives, such as scenes with buildings, signs, people, etc.)? I would think that Mexican railroads would be an interesting alternative to U.S. railroads - different, but not as different as Asian or European, and using similar equipment. MH
I posted the previous picture in a bit of a hurry. Here are a few more shots. Linea S today is Ferrosur's mainline between Veracruz and Mexico City. Ferrosur has an all GE roster, still including a U36C, ex-AT&SF SF30C's, C30-7's, AC44CW's and now ES44AC's. Here a few shots of various FNM and Ferrosur power in the canyon. I'll post a picture of the prototype of the bridge. Its a high truss with strangely short spans over the Rio Atoyac.
Here's a few shots of Ferromex and FNM power on a unit cement train. The flat area against the stone retaining wall was the future location of the Atoyac depot.
Here's a view of the prototype bridge, known as Puente El Chiquihuite compared with a northbound TFM manifest. Hmm, not sure why the fist photo didn't attach. I'll try it again.
Okay, here's the prototype; Puente El Chiquihuite. I guess that I should note that this portion of Linea S has been bypassed and the rails removed. In the 1980's, the Mexican govenment realligned much of Linea S through the mountains. The current mainline is now on the opposite side of the canyon, out of view from this picture.
Great photos and a great diorama. Looks like pretty rugged country. I do have several items of Mexican RR rolling stock on my layout as we see those all the time in south Texas. There are a lot of gondolas for some reason.
I have 2 FVM Ferromex GEVO's. Nice pullers and great details but, don't expect painted replacement parts yet. I like that Ferro-Sur color.
Great scenery. Have to keep reminding myself that this mountain area is jungle country ... The track between Cordoba and Esperanza ... tough sleding indeed ! Thanks for sharing !
And this make a difference why Marc? If it would not have been brought back from the afterlife, I might not have been able to see it. Whether natemuhl is still on the board or not, I think this was some nice work. Thanks for bringing it back webskipper...
