Ok, I converted all my rolling stock with Microtrains trucks and couplers.
Now I would like to remove the plastic wheels and put metal wheels on this trucks.
The Microtrains website announces bulk packs of non magnetic wheels, but nothing says these are metal wheels or the plastic ones.
Has anyone an idea to help me out of this?

    Thanks,
    Paul

All the Micro-Trains wheels are plastic. Atlas announced they are making low profile 33" metal wheelsets that fit Micro-Trains trucks. The Atlas part number is 22133 - 12 for $5.95. You can get them from Atlas, or N Scale Supply has them for $4.99.

    Mike,
Have you tried the Atlas wheelsets yet? If so, do they work well with the MicroTrains trucks?

No, but only because I don't have a hobby shop anywhere nearby, and I haven't had an opportunity to order any yet. They should work fine. The important measurement is the axle length. These are sized to fit MT trucks, which are a different width than Atlas and other trucks.

I have converted about 100 of my MT equipped cars to the Atlas metal wheelsets.

They run fine and I like the way they sound [IMG]

    All:

I haven't seen these yet, but they sound interesting. My question would be, are they blackened or shiny silver?

I tryed the 36" Atlas wheels in MT's but they seem to give more friction, maybe I should use a Dremel to flatten the pins that hook up in the trucks a bit. But I have not tryed that yet.

No, Atlas only makes 33" wheelsets to fit the MT trucks. The 36" sets are wider.

Guess I will have to give some of these a try. Bill, I'm curious too though, are they blackened or just silver?

Thanks Bill. Guess it wouldn't be too much trouble to blacken them before instalation.

here's a little formula for rusting wheelfaces that I used in my HO daze.... mix 1 part Floquil (the solvent based one) Rust with 2 parts Dullcote. Wish I had some pics of my old HO rolling stock (LONG SINCE SOLD!!), Intermountain made a 36" metal set that fit in most HO trucks, drybrush some "weathered black" (I think thats the name of the PollyScale color, it's actually a grungy looking gray color) on the trucks and rust the wheelfaces! I received MANY compliments on their apearance (even without weathering the shell!) and want to repeat it in N scale. Hope I-M or Atlas is listening... WE NEED A METAL 36" WHEELSET IN LO-PRO THAT FITS M-T's TRUCKS!!!! thats my christmas wish... oh yeah and a standard cab sd70 please!! ;)
