What was the conditions of the IC merger. Are they going to stay the same just under CN management or are they going to repaint everything in sight in CN colors just as BNSF and UP are doing.

Most units will, for the time being, be mainatined in IC colours. In fact, alot of Canadian freight cars are being relettered for IC so they (CN) saves money on taxes. Some units are the excpetion, being painted in CNR, sub-lettered I.C.R.R.

    Happy Railroading!

So I can assume that it will take forever and a million years for them to be repainted. I am starting to see some of the IC locomotives on the CN vehicle trains though Galesburg,IL that go to Kansas City. But They are still using alot of the SD70I and SD75I though. everynow and then you will see a old loco or two run though here.

I think CN is slowly, but surley moving power around the system. There have been major changes in Vancouver, Jasper and Edmonton in the last 14 months.

    Happy Railroading!

I got a letter as did all employees last year from Paul Tellier CEO of CN and he has said CN will have the same paint scheme as will IC . The new railroad will be called simply CN IC .

    This is General Information

What does the merger mean for shippers?

The merger provides shippers with more competitive options to extend their market reach. The new CN extends from the Atlantic to the Pacific and down to the Gulf of Mexico, creating the only true North American railroad on the continent. Shippers now have direct access to more markets, more gateways, and more efficient service through Chicago.

    What is the "Cut Over"?

October 1, 2000 is the date when IC's TCS computer system will be replaced by CN's SRS computer system. At the same time, IC will cease to exist as a common carrier and CN will adopt IC's stations and replace IC, CC and/or CEDR (by CN) in the route ("single line routing").

    Why is CN doing this?

CN seamlessly merged operations with IC on July 1, 1999. However, in order to provide the full benefits of the merged companies to our customers, we need to move to single-line routing and an integrated computer system. Soon, customers will be able to enjoy simplified routing and full trip plans for shipments over our entire network.

Will any of these changes affect the way customers do business with CN?

No. New CN customers on the former IC territory are unlikely to notice any changes, but they will be able to enjoy some new services and a simplified way of doing business. Customers can continue to call the same contact people for day-to-day support. However, we are reviewing improvements to our current processes in our accounting offices in Homewood, IL and Toronto, ON which may result in switching a few customers from Homewood to Toronto and vice-versa.
