I check in every once in a while, to see if there is anything interesting going on, mainly as an offshoot of my section on Canadian Pacific.

It is a shame that lately CP has this practice of painting everything that does not have CP Rail, or any of the other schemes, but D&H and SOO are the main targets.

As for lightning stripes, 2 original and the 2 Ogden rebuilt 38-2's are all that remain [IMG]

What I hate [IMG] to see is the D&H being repainted under the StL&H

Do you know why [IMG] CP decided on this vs. leaving the lines with their old names.

STLH was created to make the lines in the east into its own subsidiary (internal). 31 engines recieved the paint.

No longer is the case, even tho the STLH lines are a "paper" road, DH 7309 went west to Ogden in Calgary early last year. This year it returned, in the CP Beaver scheme, keeping its old number 7309, more than likely if any of the GP38-2's fail at this point, those being 7303-4, 7307, and 7312, look for them to be westbound, and come back beaverized.

D&H officially will be a memory, being in the STLH fold, but even that is folded into CPR...just like the SOO, all the CP 8500 series AC4400's are SOO owned, no sign of SOO markings anywhere to be had [IMG]

  5. Hi There, April 16th/2000.

I used to live in Montreal so all We
got were the PAs on the Pasgr Trains and
the N.J. Units on the Freight to Delson
& St. Luc Yard. The RS units came on the
Psgr runs now and then. I didn't see the
other units as I moved West in 78. I was
able to see the odd D & H at the Ogden
shops. I know you guys hate the St. L & H
Logo but Its not all that Bad really.
Anyways its nice to enjoy this D & H
Forum when I'm able to even if its Down
East and I live in Calgary.
    Happy Railfanning Guys.

I found this forum from a link to another site. So I would suggest that you link to all the historial society web sites that are out there.
I found the D&H during my college years by driving the car at the Hendrick Hudson Hotel in Troy where the Binghamton crews were lodged. I drove to Mechanicville and back. That turned into a few cab rides also. I have not lost my love for the blue and grey lighting stripes since I went away. I have 14 HO lighting stripes in my collection that I have picked up over the years. Alco's & GE's rule!!!!!!!!
Here is my e-mail if anybody wants to get in touch with me.

My idea, for what it's worth, is to post on the other forums some sort of invitation to join. However, based on experience with the other Yahoo! clubs, not too many people do anything other that read the postings, only a few actually reply. Too bad that the BLHS site doesn't have a message board...

    Blackhawk04,

You and I are about the only two (2) active members of the D&H Collector's Guild Forum on Yahoo. Do you see any need [IMG] to continue keeping the group active given TrainBoard. Yes, we would be giving up Links and Images posting [IMG] ; but, TrainBoard plans to move forward on these enhancements [IMG] to help resolve this issue. We can always use the DHVM for Link and Image postings [IMG] of collector's and use UBB coding to show images and links here on TrainBoard.

I can also try to push BLHS to use TrainBoard as a Forum as a memeber [IMG] ; but, it might be helpful if other BLHS memebers do this to avoid a conflict of interest since I'm the D&H moderator for TrainBoard right now. I'm already in a HOT WATER [IMG] with the BLHS Web Master over my efforts with the DHVM web site. I wouldn't want certain BLHS Staff memebers thinking I'm trying to damage [IMG] the BLHS when I'm only trying to enhance it via suplimental web sites.

I don't think the DHCHS would be interested in TrainBoard unless we also represent the Canal History here too. I think this would be a great idea to open this forum section up to the complete history of the D&H and not limit it to just the RR history. I mean, we are "America's oldest continually operated transportation company" so we have allot of history that spans beyond RR that other forums don't have.

    Thoughts???

    Stourbridge,

Remember you can post pics on Trainboard, just have to do the HTML coding and have a site to upload them too. So you really would not be giving that up, and as you said, this is a far superior method

    JPindar,

What I was refering to when I mentioned "Posting Images" is that the Yahoo! Club I also mentor has the ability to "UpLoad" images into the Forum for "continues" display in album format. TrainBoard can only display what is "UpLoad" somewhere else within a message of a given thread.

We could have a thread that is just for Images (and another for Links); but, if we don't keep posting, the thread will age out of the 10 day display and will be forgotten. I did try to start a "Link" thread; but, it is already not being replaied too so I don't think this idea works.

I'm very interested in hearing ideas. Can we get some commitment from the D&H railfans that someone (in rotation within everyone that want's to participate) do a "Image of the Week" posting. This would keep the thread active. I'm not sure how long it would take to load to see the new image thou.

    More Thoughts?

    Strour...

I have changed it to 30 days on the topics and if you need links we can create links at the bottom of your forum of a seperate links page on the site for your links although they would have to be placed on an HTML page and updated manually. I can send you a template and you can add links as you choose and send me the file and I can upload it ias necessary.

    Charlie,

Sounds like a good alternative. Would it be possible to have a "Link" and a "Image" HTML page per Forum. I think the moderators could help with the work load if we maintained the HTML in a common format and then send it to you for upload after we verified the content. It wouldn't be as fast; but, it would still allow for the enhancement and add enjoyment for those that "View" more than "Post". I will open this topic up in the Crummy for detailed discussion with the team.

Sorry about taking so long to reply to this, had a couple of other irons in the fire...so I am going to reply to this and another message at once.

I'm ok with closing down the Yahoo! club. Like you said, we're the only two active members on the site anyways. Yes losing the photos is too bad, but reading some of the other postings here, it looks like we can more than make up for it.

On to some what related news...If we decide to do a picture of the week...I have quite a few images pulled down from the web, (unfortunately I don't have ALL copy right information), I'd be happy to contribute.
