I got home today from a great railfan experience at the McCloud River RR in California. Martin Hansen (Loggerhogger) put this on, and what an experience it was. I am convinced that this is the only way we will be able to get steam photos in the future, by private charters. Unfortunately the McCloud is being torn up, literally. Rails being pulled and sold for scrap, due to lack of customers. About the only thing remaining for revenue is the dinner train. I have a few hundred more photos to process, but here are a few from the fantastic performance of 2-6-2 No. 25 in perfect weather conditions, early morning cold, producing great steam plumes, early morning light for glint shots, the mountain (Shasta) being "out" all weekend, and the fans photographing. Have a look. I will process more after some rest.
Great shots. Friend Tim and I were up on Saturday evening after working with the 19 in Yreka all day. Had fun. We were up in the cab with Malen and Larry and both of us got to do a little braking for them.
Here is a shameless "hero" photo of yours truly, taken by Martin Hansen. Shameless is the word to bump this back up again. Hey, I had fun!
Jim- Great photos. Thank you for sharing them. Sorry I missed you on this trip. I arrived in McCloud on Sunday afternoon just as they put the #25 away, but did not come down near the shop building. The #25 did receive one noticeable modification. As built, it and sister #24 both had the generators mounted in front of the stack. The #24 had its generator moved back in front of the cab sometime late in its career, but the #25 remained as built...until this trip... Jeff Moore Elko, NV
Jeff, likewise, I'm sorry I missed you. I enjoy reading your historical info of not only the McCloud, but all the other western railroads. :tb-sad:
Great photos! Beautiful locomotive, and you captured it several times incredibly! Thanks for sharing!
