here is a matched set of kcs sd40-3's actually. 1 is mine and the other is for ednsfan. and then this is the newest addition to the mopac fleet, an atlas wide vision crummy with a gatrworks caboose light kit installed.
actually it was easy, it comes in two pieces from gatrworks and then when you get it n place you solder the leads to the power unit that has a slide switch and battery holer to mount inside the caboose. after figuring out where and what to get done for it it took a whole 15 minutes to mount the light and put it together
bob, if you are in anyway disappointed in Mitch's work, I'll buy 'em back from ya' to quote the dude from N'awleans "I garrruuuntee it"
hmmm if you call it a "nice crummy" you've got an oxymoron, like jumbo shrimp, wireless cable, tight slacks, and small crowd. good grief, I could go on and on
ed the locos are ones i bought from frisco. a sw9 and undec gp20. so i can get my bicentennial mopac's started!!!!!!
Hmmm whats this Mitch did BOB jump the queue lol, only kidding love your work and I have my 2 sd40's mothballed until you can paint them. Will you only require the shells or the whole locomotive?
Wow, nice models! I especially like the level of weathering on the locos. I'm also interested in the outfit that made the lighting kit, as I never heard of them. I'll do a search for the obvious, but do they have a website? Russ
russ the light kit came from www.gatrworks.com it is a nice easy to kit. and colonel the locos are they sd40's or sd40-2's. all i will need is the shell and handrails along with the truck sideframes without the wheels and the fuel tank. if they are sd40's they will have dynamic brakes which is not prototypical and if they are sd40-2's with dynamic it is still not too proto since they are the old style. not many people will notice. and actually that will be an easy paint job so i could get to them in the next week or so or whenever you send them. i think ednsfan will allow a couple extra days on his stuff.
Thanks for that link Mopac, I just checked it out. That is a battery powered kit? I guess that it can be adapted with some wheel contacts. Thanks! Russ
i don't know about the wheel contacts, i just used the battery. the shell pops off easy from frame so it is easy to replace. not really alot to the kit, there is no resistors or anythin so i don't know how you would drop the voltage on it.
Mitch, I have 2 sd40-2 BNSF, can you email me your address to railroad2000@trainboard.com also with how much you would like for painting them for me or maybe we can do a deal with rollingstock or something.
Especially like the cab... I might have to try a light kit like that on an EJ&E cab. They use to have the double blinkers up until the 80's. I'm curious if you've done one of the MP transfer type cabs... I always liked those. Dave D.
