I don't normally watch this show, but this Wednesday at 9:00 the host will be "surviving"
the big sky county. What caught my eye was it appears he spends a little time on the Central Montana RR. It showed him climbing up what looks to be on of the trestles (possibly Judith River) on the line, as well as running down a tunnel as the train approaches. The diesel was painted blue and white, like the CMRR. If you can stand to watch through the godawfull drama, you may get to see some good train shots. :tb-biggrin:

It sounds corny. Like the tunnel/train part. Probably staged. Might actually be a challenge for him, or a city dweller- If a blizzard and forty below. Otherwise, all he needs to do, is follow the tracks/r-o-w. There'll be a ranch nearby, or he'll reach a settlement shortly.

No doubt it's staged, LOL that's what I was laughing at, "follow the ROW" :tb-biggrin:
I think he starts out on Glacier, ends up around Denton, nice walk, and imagine that, didn't come across any homes, or roads, or lakes, or a bar????.....

There's a lot of nothing in that neck of the woods, and an abundance of buzzworms, and other nasties that can came a tough journey almost impossible. Granted, there's civilization within a few miles' hike.

Hey Dean- If you happen to see this episode again, any chance you could capture it? Maybe pin down his route, etc?

If he started out in the Glacier (Park) vicinity(?), and ended up somewhere near Denton, then he had to almost follow a predetermined course, in order to miss people. He would have crossed some significant roadways, plus the BNSF sub through Great Falls, and on to the High Line.

Yup. Many buzzworms in non-wintery months. I would not be surprised to learn he'd demonstrated how to catch and eat one or two?

I have my DVR programmed to record this one. Will watch and report his route. As plentiful as rattlers are in summer, he could certainly eat well, if he avoids the bite!

I tasted a sample of buzzworm, once. Was told it should be somewhat like chicken. Sure didn't seem quite that way to me... But if truly hungry, I would eat it.

Awaiting your review of the show! :D

I was quickly reminded why I don't watch this stuff. Anyway, the last 4 minutes were railroad related. If you missed it, you didn't miss nothing.

So did anyone better determine his approximate route?

I'll watch it later tonite, or this weekend. Too busy last night. I like his shows, as corny as they can be (or faked), but the info that is gleaned couple prove useful for an outdoors type like me.

You would be better off watching Les Stroud, (Survivorman) it's much closer to reality.

I bet the locals got a kick out of it. :tb-biggrin:

It was impossible to tell, some parts almost looked like the "Gates of the Mountains" area NW of Helena, just by the trees and rock formations. He jumped around alot, I bet he filmed that in a least 4 different areas of the state, but it was edited to make you think it was in one area.

I used to LOVE Survivorman, but there's no new shows anymore.

I have no idea where he was. Didn't recognize any of it. The last bit on the CMR was stupid. Why climb a 100+ foot tall trestle bent, when you can hike to the abutment, and climb the hillside? The way he surmounted the MILW concrete pan of the trestle was inventive, however.
The last shots when they hiked thru Tunnel 1 was interesting as well. Of course, they manage to get caught in the tunnel with an oncoming train that didn't seem to be slowing or applying brakes. No squealing. Seemed staged to me. At the last possible second, they (Bear, and his camera crew) bail out of the tunnel as the power screams by, with what seems to be a work train in tow. I figured the speed limit on the CMR was like 10-20 MPH? The last shot takes the cake, Bear and crew hops aboard, and bear makes his way to the power, picking the wrong side of the long hood to reach the rear cab door!
Last I checked, hopping a train was a felony?

Not sure what the charge would be, but it is unlawful. I suppose he's trying to dramatize the situation, but that just proves without a doubt it's all staged.
