Hi all, I am trying to put together a list of "mainline" steam locomotives. I am looking for locomotives that are either running (i.e. SP 4449), or that have run in the past (i.e. SSW 819). So far, I have the following: ATSF 3751 San Bernardino RR Hisorical Society MILW 261 Friends Of 261 NKP 765 Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society NW 611 NS Railroad SOO 2719 Chippewa Valley Railroad Historical Society SP 4449 Friends Of The 4449 SP 2472 Golden Gate Railroad Museum SP&S 700 SSW 819 UP 844 & UP 3985 UP Railroad What are some other locomotives that should be added to this list? I thought that NS had 2 steam locomotives in their program before they ended it. Thanks for any additions or corrections, BJR
Welcome aboard!!!! What about the CP and CN engines? I forget their numbers, but 2816 comes to mind for some reason. Also, Ohio Central's steamer? 6325? There are others, but I forget... As for the UP examples, here's a couple of my shots of them: UP 3985, a 4-6-6-4 Challenger, marches up Sherman Hill eastbound out of Laramie, WY:
UP 844, a 4-8-4 Northern type locomotive, simmers quietly at Brighton, CO awaiting a northbound meet:
BJ, Welcome to Trainboard! It was great to meet you aboard the "Western Star" at the convention. You are right, Norfolk Southern ran not only the 611 but 2-6-6-4 1218. Both now reside in the Roanoke museum. Currently running or capable of: Pere Marquette 2-8-4 1225, Owosso, MI Ohio Central (Grand Trunk) 4-8-4 6325 Ohio Central (CP or CN) 4-6-2 1278 Steamtown Baldwin 0-6-0 26 Steamtown CP 4-6-2 2317 Steamtown CN 2-8-2 3254 Western Maryland 2-8-0 734 TVRM 2-8-0 610 Canadian Pacific 4-6-4 2816 NYS&W Chinese 2-8-2 142 Some that have run in my memory: Southern 2-8-2 4501 C&O 4-8-4 614 SP 4-6-2 2467 VA Central 4-6-2's 1286 & 1239 BC Rail Royal Hudson 4-6-4 2860 CN or CP 4-8-2 6060 Reading 4-8-4's 2100, 2101, 2102, 2124 Texas & Pacific 2-10-4 610 I know there are others, this just from my (fading) memory.
I just remembered: Cumbres & Toltec; Durango & Silverton Narrow Guage both run steam engines.... Georgetown Loop RR used to, do they still have any teakettles?
