Just read John Strauss's new book - Milwaukee Road Passenger Trains, Vol. 2. The book contains a significant error that has been repeated many times in Milwaukee Road lore and books.

Loweth Pass (or Summit) as some call it is about 40 miles southwest of Harlowton. Strauss states that it was the Milwaukee Road's pass through the Big Belt Mountains. Nothing could be further from the truth. Loweth Pass is some twenty five miles south of the Little Belt Mountains; it is some thirty three miles from the eastern end of the Big Belt Mountains. Loweth Pass or Summit is located on a rise between the Crazy Women Mountains and the Castle Mountains. Neither range is in the Belt Mountains; Big or Little. Please help us correct this falsehood. If you see in a book or publication the statement that Loweth or Summit is in the Big Belt Mountains, please immediately correct the statement. Thanks! Montananext.

I believe they confuse it due to the former helper district through Loweth. Which that grade was bypassed in the 1956 track re-alignment.
