Hi all, I was wondering if anyone has the book "North American Railyards" by MotorBooks and what their opinion of the book is with regards to a resource for modeling the prototype. Specifically, (according to a posted image of the index), Lindenwood Yard (in St. Louis) on page 23 is listed. What I want to know is, does this section of the book have a detailed track layout of this yard? I would like to model this yard on my home layout. Thanks for the reviews and feedback.
Hi Chris: I have thst particular book in my collection. Unfortunately i'm at work and can't answer you particular question until I get home. I found the book pretty good, especially for reference to what kind of junk is laying around yards.
FYI - Lindenwood is NOT one of the yards with a trackplan in this book. There is a single page with text and a single photo for Lindenwood, but not much else.
It may not have Lindenwood, but as a freight yard junkie, I love the book. In fact, I read myself to sleep with it again last night! And at $30 or less with discount, it is one of the great value books in the MR press. I am tempted to get their signaling book, too.
I can only second what has been said: The Yard book is great, the Signalling book is a real history book and describes every known way of relaying signals to trains. Michael
