Can anyone tell me of Milw SW1's that still survive? One comes into mind. It's in service on the Ballard Terminal in Seattle. Others?

    Andy-

Some of my own information from a web site:

EMD SW-1 #52 Seattle & North Coast RR Port Angeles switcher (Ex- MILW 869; nee 956; nee 1619). After its use on the SNCT, the #52 saw use during the brief operation of the Olympic Railroad. The locomotive was stored in the Seattle area in late 1997 where it was used in some local television station commercials. This locomotive was acquired by the Ballard Terminal Railroad and refurbished in May of 1998. Ballard Terminal operates several miles of ex-Northern Pacific trackage in the industrial area adjoining the ship canal that links Puget Sound with Lakes Union and Washington. The unit is now numbered 98 and is painted in the red, black, and silver colors of Seattle's Ballard High School. Photos of this unit have appeared in several railfan publications.

    Boxcab,

I saw one about a month ago working a yard on the north side of milwaukee, by the old A.O. Smith Plant that was used by Tower Automotive. She looked really beat up, but still wore the famous MILWAUKEE ROAD harld across her hood. I do remember seeing the wonderful Gray Square with the SOO marking. I can't remember the engine number. It looked like they were sorting out a fresh cut of cars. I would have stopped by was on the way to a job site.

The Milwaukee Road is still alive and well in my basement!

    Bryan-

Perhaps one of these days you'll have an opportunity to grab a photo of that SW.

    Welcome to TrainBoard!

Wisconsin Great Tourist Railroad in Spooner, WI rail uses one. I have images..and got to hear it run two years ago. Saw it pulling a train when I drove through there this year. I will try and dig them out. PM me with a way to send them to you. I no longer have work coputer access so replies may take a week or two.

Speaking of the SW-1's, I was going through Spooner on my way to Caledonia this past September. Went looking for remnants of the Caledonia line and the Isinours/La Cresent line. Caledonia doesn't exist in any form..just vague remnants in the towns along the way to Preston. The LaCresent line has some ROW visble west of Hokah ,MN and then it turns into Rails to Trails further west. Had fun explaining to some kids on bikes that the "canyon" they were in just east of the old Isinours junction was a CUT made by hand digging and black powder blasting.

Ya' know, I can't confirm or deny it, but in Tacoma, WA. there is a scrap metal yard across the tide flats from DT Tacoma, towards Brown's Point. A couple of times I've driven by there and you can definetly make out an SW1 thru the fence WITH the style of spark arresters that the MILW built for they're diesels. Hmmmmmm.
