I am just wondering if there is some way when looking at railimages in new and older submissions to see some kind of explanations explaining what is being done and what scale the image is showing.

Unless I'm mistaken, if members don't add details when they upload photos, there's nothing else to read and we're left wondering just as you are. I sometimes find this with prototype photos and it greatly reduces the impact of an image when there's no date, no location and no detail about the scene.

Many of the images date back to when one basically had to load them into RailImages and then link them into a forum post. So the detail info was probably in the forum post. When we moved to the new software, one could now load directly into a post. Of course, when we migrated, all those links got lost, too :(
