Well, I'm glad to see more of the "winged" species! I'm fond of the SD-80MACs, an these 70ACe's make my day to see more of the brute looks with the winged radiators! Looks like I'll be making me a hybrid from an 80MAC to a 70 ACe! All done from a RPP 80MAC shell!
I'm very fond of these beasts too John. They bring back memories of now rare SD-45's, and even though my favorite road, the B&O, didn't own any, they were common enough in my hometown of Chicago. I grew up very near Forrest Hill crossing on the southwest side, across the street from the B&OCT main and PRR 59th St. hump yard. Both crossed the BRC and Wabash/N&W at grade, so if it ran into Chicago, it showed up there. I always thought the SD-45's were as tough looking as they were good looking, and the winged 70 series comes close. Jimmy
Jimmy, Your right, PLUS I have to add my favorite "Brute" looking loco, which is the GP-30, with the dynamic brake blister, that came all the way over the cab, to give it that "mean brute" look.... I must say that the GP-30 an the now SD-80, SD-70ACe has a place in my heart and mind from their looks! Be nice to see an SD-80MAC with the older scheme of the B&O with the dual yellow stripes, with B&O spelt outright "Baltimore And Ohio" but I know I know we can dream right? (Be nice to freelance one like that.... Like, all the loco's possible new an old to have B&O on them to make the B&O alive in the new world as a resurected railroad... what a plan! HE HE HE As something like Union Pacific, all the old loco's an all the new ones too..... Hmmmm I might just do this for the fun of making the B&O a fictional railroad in the 2000's!
You guys are killing me.... two of my favorite locomotives are GP30's and SD45's !!! There was a place on the Internet where you could go and "paint" locos in fantasy schemes,,,, I'll have to look that up for you... Harold
I saw a CEFX SD-45 probably rebuilt to a -3, I'm not sure, don't keep up with these things like I should. It was in Connellsville, PA, today, definitely a SD-45 Shell. I always liked the SD-45's even though NYC is my road, I have a what if SD40-2 in NYC but not a 45. [ 11. June 2004, 22:43: Message edited by: NYC-BKO ]
Hey Brian, Welcome aboard! I shot an ex-UP SD45 (now CEFX) that had been rebuilt and included a "sight glass" on the side. Harold
