I'm Denny, from Italy. I have been a member of Trainboard since 2004. What a thriving N scale community this forum has! Since we are social animals, I thought a re-introduction wouldn't hurt. I returned to the hobby after a 15-year hiatus. In the late 2000s and early 2010s, I went through a painful divorce and left the hobby. But hey! I've had a new partner for over 10 years now, and I'm happier than ever. I was really active on TB in the late 2000s while building a Southern Pacific layout in N scale, depicting a portion of the California Coast Line set in the 1970s. Maybe a few longtime members have a vague recollection of it. I was especially engaged in the First Annual International Winter Layout Party thread: https://www.trainboard.com/highball...nual-international-winter-layout-party.39395/ (unfortunately, all of my photos were hosted on PhotoBucket, and I no longer have access to that account) The whole idea behind the Winter Layout Party - along with the TB gang - really motivated me to complete a scenery project I had been putting off for too long. Over the course of six weeks, I was able to get a lot done. Here’s a before-and-after shot. That layout is long gone, and a few things have changed in my life as well Last September, I went to a popular train show here in Italy, where I reconnected with some old model railroading buddies. It reminded me of all the good times - talking about trains, having operating sessions, working on each other's layouts - and that spark for the hobby reignited. I'm now building a small Southern Pacific switching layout set in the San Fernando Valley, CA. Unfortunately, I no longer have a dedicated train room like I did 15 years ago, but I'm having fun nonetheless!
As someone who's plans were put on hold for many years and recently came back to it as well, welcome back. Definitely looking forward to things to come!
Hey Denny! Welcome back! I think I may remember some of your layout photos from many moons ago. Much like you, I joined TB in the early 2000's when I was really just getting into the hobby for the first time. I had started laying track on an 11x17 layout in my garage when my first son was born in 2003. Model railroading became too expensive and too time consuming for me with a new baby in the house so I dismantled the benchwork and sold everything I had. I've been back on TB for a few months now as I prepare to start building a spare bedroom layout (see link in my signature). Glad you're back on the wagon!
Welcome back!! I wasn't around here back then but it's all good and we are all here now. Cant wait to see what you are going to be building.
Welcome back enjoy the hobby once again Apparently you remembered your user name and info from when you joined in 2004, impressive
@Pfunk thank you, your Japanese project is quite ambitious. Looking forward to the progress. @WolfWorks thanks, and thanks for the glue recommendation! @Hoss we're in the same boat, then @BNSF FAN thanks! I'm glad you have some memories. @BoxcabE50 thank you very much! @Massey thanks! I'll share the progress here. I'm still at benchwork stage now. @Sumner thank so much, I miss that layout. It was very nice and really fun to operate. @r_i_straw glad you remember. thank you! @in2tech I confess I used the "forgot password" function. but yes, I remembered both username and email
Still impressive Jethro computing, welcome to your 21st year, I think I'll ask Granny if that is right. I'm assuming everyone knows the Beverly Hillbillies? I shouldn't do that
Hi Denny, When in Italy, what are the best Italian model railroad and train type magazines to look for on the news stands?
