Can’t have a railroad without trucks to service industry. So I worked to come up with several trucking companies that were around in the 1960s. SeaLand was the first US container company established in 1960, this is a Marklin container on a Shapeways container trailer. The Roadway truck was custom made for me by João Marrafa de Carvalho (JMC) https://www.facebook.com/JMC-Scale-Models-341193572911400/ The Preston, Yellow, JB Hunt, Old Dominion, and Consolidated Freightways are NSM decals from The N Scale Architect https://thenarch.com/products/40-trailer-or-containers-z I made the ABL decals by cutting and pasting from the internet. The tractors and the trailers are from various Z scale makers or custom made for me by friends. Enjoy! John
Can almost hear the honking and yelling, and those diesels running like it was real, back in the day!
Real nice if you think you have enough trucks…better get more! Always room for more trucks. i really like the variety though in type style and age.
I fondly remember the Long Island Lighting Company working on electric lines and lights when I was a kid, so I had to have a LILCO crew on my layout. Enjoy, John
Nice scene. Where'd the traffic cones come from? Jim Nice Scene. Where did the traffic cones come from? Jim
Jim, The traffic cones came from 3D BUILDING models on Shapeways https://www.shapeways.com/product/KSLMVTPJE/traffic-cones-x64-1-220?optionId=139201157&li=shops 3D BUILDING models has a lot of great detail items! John
As somebody who grew up on Long Island, that might be the only time I've heard somebody refer to any memory of LILCO as fond.
It seems like forever when I last posted an update in Jan, but trust me I've been working on the railroad (as the song goes), I just don't feel compelled to post anything until I'm done with the project I'm working on, just my preference. A simple thing that I've been wanting to complete for so long (its amazing how those simple quick projects get away from us) was to finally decal my NY Central covered barge (you can get one of these at https://thenarch.com/products/covered-barge-kit-separate-cover-z). The decals were done long ago by my friend and fellow New Yorker, Dan Pikulski https://www.facebook.com/people/Dans-Resin-Casting/100054357708157/ I think it turned out pretty nice. The space between the barge cover and the barge deck is because I still haven't secured the cover to the deck, maybe that the next small project I will put off for a few years and then get motivated to complete. Enjoy, John
John, Great job! I know what you mean about unfinished projects. One of these days I'll get back to my track deck scow. Scott
I've been working on numerous project for my layout but this small Brooklyn-Queens Expressway (BQE) sign helps set the stage for the location. Enjoy, John
Always enjoy that gritty urban feel you get your layout to achieve. So well done! Yet another detail that really makes it look “right”.
