Translating British to (American) English I was puzzled at the thread about sleepers on the London Underground. Why should a subway use sleeping cars? I thought they were just for long-distance overnight trains. I forgot that in British, "sleepers" means what we Yanks call "crossties."
Kenneth, if the Underground has transit delays anything like the Washington Metro a few years back, sleepers (Yank's definition) might be a welcome relief...LOL
