I new idea was suggested to me (Thanks Keith) and it was to somewhat follow the ideas of the old Model Railroader and Trains magazine quizzes from the 60's and 70's.

    TLQ 1.jpg

    Name the railroad
...and the original owner of the loco shown above.
(Don't worry, you can click on the photo, I'm not that mean...)

    Alright, here's a hint.

    This is a 2-8-0.

Wish I had a slightly better view of the side of the locomotive.
Or the cars behind it at best! Maybe a short line or branch line of years past.
Thought somewhere like Strasbourg. But nothing matches.

Alright, here's another hint, it is located in the Northern part of the USA.

well, the number is 77, so I would have guessed Mississippian 77, which is now Alberta Prairie #41, but does not look like the loco pictured, and is in Canada....

That is interesting, as I had looked in Minnesota and still cannot think of what company had a 77.

Well if it's 27 and not 77, it could be D&NE.

If so, this locomotive is still around.

Well, you are on the right track, it is the Duluth & Northeastern and the right loco, but no original owner.

We finally have a winner. Keith you are correct!
(Technically, it should be the Duluth, Missabe & Northern, but close enough, it became the DM&IR anyway).

Now I promise the next one won't be as hard (maybe).

I made a mistake, you had the correct loco and railroad, but you were missing the original owner. So, you were close, but not quite there. Sorry.
