RR diesel shop work is done from four levels Overhead -- cranes for lifting/placing heavy components Raised platforms -- shop workers are at a level roughly equal in height to the side sill of the locomotive Floor level -- rails are laid in the concrete floor Inspection pits -- below-ground level pits in between the rails Just found this site today (see separate post) via TrainOrders.com and can offer these links from Mike Endres' Iowa Rails Site. The main page loads slowly on my 28.8K ISP so I have included the shop photo links as well ===== Photo Tour of BNSF Argentine Yard, Kansas City KS 02/23/02 http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/2-23-02.html ===== Shots from inside the diesel shop http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/atsf575.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/atsf845.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/bnsf4220.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/bnsf4875.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/in-shops.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/in-shops2.jpg http://www.public.iastate.edu/~mendres/images/bnsf/in-shops4.jpg ===== eNjoy [ 23. Thanks Don! I have purchased three of theses kits and am going to combine them to create a large shop on my layout. I have finally finished laying track for the yard and the ESF (engine service facility) and these photos will help me take a nice shell bachman provided and turn it into a good looking facility. There is an article in one of the model railroad mags from a year or so ago that shows how to detail an HO version of this same kit. I will dig it up and post which one and the date it was published.
