I was going to post a detailed post w/ pic's but found that newbies must wait 3 days before you can be determined not to be a spammer. So in the spirit of a newbie, I'll post more in 3 days. I hope to share and enjoy the knowledge base here.
I model in HO and N scale. Be back soon.

Thank you all for the very warm welcome. One more day and then I'm free to post pic's. Fitz many years ago I lived in Coos Bay, Ore. Its is a great place to live. I never got use to the rain but it was nice and always smelt clean. I hope to be an active member here, sharing and learning.

E-8 Admin>Question..Avatars, are we locked into the generics or do we have a choice after a period of time?

I've been working on this layout for a couple months. Although it looks somewhat complete I figure I'm about 35% complete. My benchwork is L frame with foam bedding for the table. Normally I would would used Snap or Peco track but was talked into Unitrack from Kato. So far I like the results. Kato Joiners are easily changed if they get defective.
My layout is on a back porch area enclosed and insulted. The layout is U shaped, long leg is 24'x29" and at the ends 7'X36". I'm still laying track and have all the electric to do for the switches and power blocks. For controls I'm going DCC with a DSC50 and 2 handheld Digitrax throttles. My goal is to build a functional point to point freight system when complete.
I had a lot of older style rolling stock (40+) with Rapido couplers and I'm slowly converting to magnetic knuckle couplers while adding new pieces. For era I'm going with the 40's-present...with Erie Lackawanna, Delaware&Hudson, CSX and Canadian Pacific road names. At present all these run freight in my area.
Ok so enough words lets get to the pics.

This is a view from about middle to the right end. Roads and ground cover are not complete.
This is a view of the Coal Mine yet to be named.
I'm running a double mainline. Again many details need to be added. The backdrop is a work in progress.
This pic is the rest of the right leg.

I didn't know if there was a limit to the number of pic's per post so I'll continue. I'm continue the other direct to the left up the pike now, again the roads are not finished.
The next is a newly constructed Cornerstone Kit...Decals are next with more structures for this area. The next is just 10% done.
Again the roads are not finished or painted with proper curbs!

Continuing up the pike. This next section has been total changed and new pic's are forthcoming.

This is the left leg of the pike.

This is a close up of the river area. Again the backdrop is a work in progress.

Now I have never done DCC and will be asking many questions of you all and with your help I hope to adapt to the present technology.
I hope you enjoy the pics, again this is all a working progress.

Jack, you're doing a great job, really nice layout. It looks a lot further along than the low percentage you estimate.

Regards "Edit"...there will be an Edit selection in the lower right of the screen next to Reply and Reply With Quote after you Submit your post. However, the Edit selection will appear for only 60 minutes, after which it will not show. The assumption is that most folks will have read your initial post within 60 minutes and would not see any changes you might make later on. So you should make a new post correcting any errors you might have made earlier.

Off Topic--were you affected by the flooding that took place in the Binghamton/Owego/Endicott area recently? Very nice modeling. I am not a modeler, I guess you could call me a twelve inch to the foot steam snob, right Hank?. :tb-biggrin:

Jim, I was personally not affected but I'm a believer in higher grounds for habitation. As to the rest of the area we took a BIG hit. The Susquehanna River hits flood stage at 17', we crested at 37'. There were 6,000 homes condemned. We had 15,000 homeless after the first week. Would you like to see some pic in a pm?

Jack, have you heard of any damage to the Cazenovia area? That was my mother's home.

Yes, LJ has my birth place flood area receded yet?
I'm in SP country now but have travel on the Phebe Snow in 1964. Always watched on the shores of the Susquehanna River past Conklin, remember?

Good to see you made it. The whole area has a new layer of rich soil compliments of Irene and Lee.

Yes, new soil on flood vacated property, new farmland. Yikes! Love the fall Maple trees and scenery. I wonder what winter is going to bring to the Triple Cities?
