    ...behind the train.

Finished up my other Erie caboose today. These were bought by the Erie as "kits" and assembled in their own Dunmore, PA shops. Some were riveted together and some were welded. Mine is welded.

The sides were drawn by me with CAD and laser cut in .010" plastic. This was glued to a etched sheet of .005" brass to create the inner window sashes and end doors. The end railings and running boards were also etched. The leaf springs added to the trucks are from one of Robert's caboose kits. For decals the "ERIE" is left over from Robert's flatcar kit, the diamond is from a N scale sheet by Dans Resin Casting, and the number was made up from spare decal sheets.

This Z model is by far more accurate than my last try to scratch build one in N scale.

Please take this over to the Railfan Forum. It's wonderful that you're preserving history by building REAL cabooses, but this has no place in a modelling forum.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Wow! Those pictures are TOO good. I love your "railfan perspective" photos. They really make your models come to life.

Keep up the great work, and don't forget about all the rest of us that need cabooses, too!

edit: woops, Jurg beat me to the joke. Sorry for the repetition.

Fantastic! The only giveaway from this to the real thing is the coupler.

    Thanks guys!

If you only knew in my mind these photo's don't look so great. I use the "super macro" on my camera and the lens is about 1" from the caboose. When I do this the lens itself casts a shadow into the scene. This is why I did the low down shot to help get more light in. Plus it hides the photo backdrop sitting on the layout ; )

    Dave,
That near track is the passing siding so it's cinders from Smith & Sons. I screened it down with a micron mesh from Small Parts Inc. So all bits should be under 3.5 Z scale inches.

About "everyone else" Both cabooses I've made are pretty much Erie specific. If these designs were used by other railroads I would have though more about making more or casting.
