I have a bunch of Life Like N scale locomotives which I have collected over the years. I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience lubricating them. The lube instructions that come with the units just say to turn it upside down and sparingly lube the visible gears. But I have been removing the shells and lubing the gear box and either side of the motor in the cradle as well as the springs that lead to the gear box with a light plastic compatible Labelle 108 oil.

I use a single drop of 'Andis Clipper Oil' on the bottom gears once during every 90 days maintenace schedule I have for all my locomotives...including my LL's. Every 90 days I take the shells off and throughly clean everything. One drop of any light plastic compatible oil goes a long ways. The gears will distribute the oil all through the gear train, including the worm gear box, once the locomotive is running around the layout. To much oil and things start to actually bog down from there being to much...plus to much will actually attract dust and debris from the rails etc.. JMO.
