I've seen some great modifications and kit-bashing done to the Kibri factory over the years. And I believe that it, besides the NSM low-relief background buildings and the new "are they really 1:220 Z scale" Faller factories, is the only multi-story brick factory in Z. Let's see the photos of what y'all have done to modify the standard Kibri brick factory. John Bartolotto
I have not had a chance to build mine yet, but I plan on modifying it to look different than the normal kit. I have been trying to rally the troops into producing brick buildings much like DPM N Scale and now the new Walthers brick structure components. This is just the thing for all you resin masters. The wall sections are flat, and I think that 1/8" pours would still be useful for Z Scale walls. And what about the new Faller Factory? I was just reading about it this morning in Ztrack. Is it really Z Scale? The size listed it as roughly 5.25" x 3.5" footprint, which seems small enough for Z. I will order one anyways, and cut off the FUNK they call a roofline. Even if I have to make my own roof! Yes, I have entered the structure phase of the hobby, having built up a large enough rolling stock collection, and now I need structures. Lots of them, and I want them to be differetn than everyone elses! As far as the Kibri brick Factory? I am trying to decide what to plug those funky triangular holes with. Maybe a strip of brick sheet? And that funny TAG tower? What can I do with it? -Robert
Unfortunately, I built mine a few years ago but can not place it anywhere. I wish I had the chance to modify it before building it.....
I bashed mine to fit against a backdrop: There are many more parts left over to keep adding details. I added the roof over the loading area, it still need EZ line supports installed. Some sort of billboard or sign will let people know what they make there. Mine is build after the instructions, exept for the weathering. I am planning to add a billboard. Look at my site for pictures (i`ll showed them here before.)
This one is my favorite. http://zcentralstation.com/modules/xcgal/displayimage.php?pid=497&album=lastup&pos=1&cat=
Chris333 - That is a great bash and great use of a corner! John - http://zcentralstation.com/modules/x...tup&pos=1&cat= is on of my favorites also. I'd like to here from the owner as to how he built it and how many factory kits it took to build. Robert - I have contacted DPM and Walthers so many times they know my voice on the phone and my email address. I think Walthers will be first to join the Z pack and I am not sure that DPM ever will. I think both of the still feel that the money is not there yet to invest in Z. Faller has always had the reputation of taking their N scale buildings, resizing the big doors and calling it Z. I am leary of them. Kibri and Vollmer are exactly 1:220 and have a good reputation. I have not personally seen the new Faller factories - does anyone out there have the new Faller buildings? When I get around to it I am going to plug the triangular holes with brick sheet, ditch the funny TAG tower to the spare parts draw and modify the roof and the receiving dock. John
John, This guy is really great in kitbashing structures. I thing the building in the background is even better. It looks like is made from the Nansen Street industrial building and Kibri factory. In fact, all his building looks great.
That is a nice building on the ZCS site. I think it would make a nice meat processing factory. Park a string of reefers there, and an ice house and icing platform nearby to finish the scene. Wow, I better get working on building mine now!
Inspired by your posts, I started cutting the tower because it is too tall. This is the result so far (before painting etc): I have to find some other small building to attach to the tower.
I think it is time to rethink Faller. I have their new station, loco shed and goods shed. These are the basis for the factory released this year. I am building the station and I really like it. They have increased their details and added features like pad printing for the window frames. The kits look all Z, though you can tell they use the same parts for each. Last year, I purchased their brick yard tower. It is great! Rob
Michael, The track is code 40 rail with PC ties every inch. The filler ties in-between are laser cut from Robert. The turnouts were built with a Fasttracks jig. The ballast is from Smith & Sons called Penn/Ohio, it was screened down to Z scale 3-4" size.
