I model NA protype, but I still have my European trains. I just dont have the heart to sell them. I still like to take them out, but I cant run them anymore. My layout is wire for dcc. Still, I love to look at my Ice3, so lets show off some of the European stuff in our collection. Here is my Ice3.

In the furure ( long ahead) when i get a home with a lot of space, i am going to build a large Norwegian layout!

I built this El17 for over a year ago, i have sold it for 280$, not bad considering that i bought the parts for under 100$

Jurg, those small engines are really cool. Are they powered?

Jurg, what are using for lighting. I use one from Marklin and it lasted one day. I am trying to find one that uses SMDs. It probably last longer and produces less heat. If all fails, I will have to make my own.

    OBB 1045

:tb-shocked:When was the OBB 1045 announced? I never saw it, and still don't see it listed at the FR website. What a beautiful model!!:tb-biggrin: More pics!

It really is one of the more intricate models.. with several grab irons on the ends of the body. I can't recall exactly when it was built. But it was around 2005 or so. Also it never appeared on FR's website... as I believe it was a special release and was notified in an email. I'll take some more pictures soon.

John, John, John...... You can put in a three position double pole switch and easily be able to switch from DC to DCC on your layout. You can pickup a heavy one from your local autopart store or home improvment center. Simply wire the two track wires from your Power Cab to one side of the switch, wire your DC transformer to the other side, and run the center leads to your track buss. Now you can easily select from one to the other. If you have a reverse loop, you will have to out in a switch to isolate it when using DC, and the unit will not work,so you wont be able to use your reverse loop. Unless of course you wire in another double contact three pole switch, and wire one side for the DCC reverser, and the other side for your DC polarity switch.

You are such a talanted modeler, i figured you would have worked this out... I just used this wiring setup and type switch to wire one of my yard tracks to work as both a regular DCC powered leg, and by throwing the switch, i can isolate it as my program track. I'm happy to help if you need, and its pretty simple wiring.

Tony, from what I read, its not a good idea to run dcc and dc at the same track. I did run at such configuration for a short time, but took out the dc side. Also, running European train on NA layout doesnt look right.

    John

You definatly can't run the DC at ther same time as the DCC or i agree you could have major problems. Furthermore, you definatly don't want to mix your DC and DCC locos on the layout at ny time..... It should be one type or the other only at all times. But isolating between the two diffenent systems with the switch should be totally safe, and no posibility of crossing the different power sources unless you hit the switch by accident. Even then, as long as you had the "not being used" power soures unplugged, then theres no possible harm.

As to the issue of European trains on a NA layout... well thats up to you my friend, and is entierly your call. I too still have a few very special European cars and locos i could not part with when i liquidated all my non-NA Z collection last winter. I rarely take them out, and when i do its just to show friends.

One of the curioused european engine ever made was
the Breuer Switcher "Rangiertraktor" This is also from
my special collection the most rare, because Halwa
made just a few in Z scale, and never went to the serial
    production. No motor also.

    Armand,
That wheels has given me some ideas, I could just machine that kind of wheel easy with Delrin... so a speeder with good wheel set is more possible.
