The only diff is the throttle.

It's more expensive to get the 90 set and add the 100 throttle.

Not sure if you need it, you can always add those.

    Alan:

I would get the Lenz 100 set. It has the handheld LH 100 throttle which is very convenient.

The general cost savings strategy is, as loco1999 said, to buy the Set100 and add an LH90.

That said, I've never personally used an LH100. I do own two LH90s, and they are perfect for most operators.

Now, as to the second part of your question. on a 4x8 layout, It really depends on how many sides are away from walls. If both of the long sides are away from walls, I would highly recommend having at least two throttle connection points. You can probably reach everything from a single point, but, especially if you're doing any switching, It is nice to be able to move where you can watch the trains more closely.

If only one of the long sides is away from the wall, then one throttle connection point is probably sufficient.

Today i put on hold my order from tony's train exchange. I would like to thank every one for thehelp and suggestions that were giving. I have decided to go with a Lenz set 100 And ds52 for stationary decoders. I am using auto reverser from Tony's as well.

    How for two more questions.

    1) what is best gauge for track bus?

    2) what is the best gauge for connecting stationary decoders to the track bus?

    Alan:

I use 14 gauge wire for the bus lines and 20 gauge wire to connect stationary deocders to the bus lines.

I also use 20 gauge wire for the feeders from the track to the bus lines.

You've made a great choice on the Lenz 100 set.

You'll be happy with Tony's auto-reversing unit. I use one of these on the JJJ&E for one of my reverse loops.

I too have recently purchased the lenz 100 from Tony's. One recommendation Tony made was to use 16 gauge wire to the program track and keep the program track as a siding and not as part of the main track. (A mistake I originally made) I am extremely happy with the lenz 100 and Tony's train Xchange. I too used 14 guage for the main bus lines and 20 guage for the feeders and have had no problems. Kapton tape is an excellent insulator for the decoders which Tony sells and I also purchase the circuit breaker. Best of luck.

PowerSteamGuy, have you ever put a decoder in a Minitrix steam engine? Is it possible to insult the motor from the chasse?

I use a siding for the programming track that's isolated from the mainline track on the JJJ&E. It is used exlcusively for programming. It is isolated from mainline track with plastic railjoiners.

I used 18 gauge wire to connect the programming track to the command station .

I have one Minitrix 2-10-0 that I was able to use a Lenz gold mini decoder in the tender. You can isolate the motor from the frame.

    Have fun...
