I am getting ready to start my layout.I am wondering.Should I use the Ntrack modules I have built for my layout?Or should I just go ahead and build all new benchwork? This is going to be a permanent layout and I have quite a few modules. They still need scenery added to them but most of them have trackwork down already. Is will be easier to level a permanent benchwork type layout?I know I can add a helix to the modules and have a second level which I am planning on doing to.Anyone have these problems and what did you do?
I would build all new benchwork. That way, you won't have to impair the layout when you go to an NTrak meeting. Also, your new layout will not be required to have the NTrak standard at any place on the layout. That gives you more freedom of design. OTOH, you will also have to store the NTrak modules. I would also build the layout in some type of modular design so it can be moved in the future. This does not mean to build it to NTrak standards. I have built my large home layout to NTrak table standards and it sometimes causes problems as it is not suited for my design. My attempts to correct that have made it much too permanent. I would probably have to destroy it in a move. And..I just paid off the house so, hopefully, I can get buried in this place!!
I guess it depends on how long you intend staying in the same house? I built permanent benchwork becauce I dont see myself moving in the next 10 years. If I do its an excuse to leave the layout behind and start a new one
If the NTRAK modules fit the scheme for a new layout, sure. Use them. But, don't think of pulling them in and out of the layout. Build them in permanently. If the bug strikes to do more NTRAKing, build new modules..... Boxcab E50
