What is the preferred software for layout design that can be used on a Mac and why? I have started a 2 level around the room with on g shaped peninsula that will have one major yard, roundhouse, turntable in one city and one or two lesser yards in other towns. It is steam in the early to mid fifties in northwest Ohio, so it will be flat. I realize that there will likely not be a consensus but would like to hear you folks experiences. Thanks in advance Jack Sibold
I only know of one, RailModeller . I bought it and I've tinkered with it but I have never used any other software so I can't speak to how it compares. It's also not free.
I've used a program called Empire Express. It's not as full featured as most PC programs, but got the job done quite well for me. It has a feature that keeps you from making curves tighter than your assigned minimum radius. It allows you to pick the type track you are using and keeps a total of what and how many of each item will be needed to purchase to make what you have drawn. I did my layout design with it about 4 years ago. It's been upgraded some since then. If you'd like to see my layout design, go here... Layout design It gets the job done. I don't know the current price, but it is quite inexpensive.
I didn't know about that app... I might have to get that. I assumed mac would be the redheaded stepchild with that, like everything else. So I didn't even bother to look.
