Anyone have a apx date or # or type of the last Red units to be painted green. What about last cars in service still CB&Q ? about a year ago I saw 1 or 2 old coal turned ballast hoppers that had CB&Q Numbers but its been a long time since I have seen any in rev service.
I saw a CB&Q/C&S gondola in BNSF company service last year, it had been outfitted to haul turnouts. It was seen in Seattle. Kevin
I had seen in Cheyenne a few years ago a green-painted (but badly flaking and faded) ACF hopper with its Q heritage showing thru... Here's a hopper I saw near Parkman Hill in Wyoming this April:
I think the last red units were repainted in '78. The last GN units went the previous year - BN was quick about repainting.
You know what? It should be illegal to paint out ANY fallen flag railcar. If it was born Santa FE, it should die Santa Fe. Or whatever. This repainting railcars everytime some tycoon buys a train set is violating HISTORY. Those railroads are NOT just businesses. THEY WERE THE USA. THOSE NAMES MEANT THINGS. OK I' alright, really. STEVE
