(A companion thread to http://www.trainboard.com/grapevine/showthread.php?t=76646 ) What was the last engine on Conrail in a fallen flag scheme - relettered, presumably, but not blue? I once read that the entire fleet was blue by the end of 1983, but that's obviously not true. http://railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=75958 EL GP9 (in terrible condition) in 1991.
tuff question, i can tell you no way were they all in blue by 83, as far as putting CR steincels on loco's,they got that done pretty quick,i imagane they were putting those on every chance they got(yards, the back engine house's, sidings) most units they recieved alot of them got scrapped early on,so i guess alot of them were not worth cr blue, i have seen blue units with no emblem on then,GP-35,A C420 even an f-unit,if i find more info i'll get back to you..
Quite a few of them sat behind Juniata in the dead line in their original paint, but were out of service for quite sometime. I recall the last paint outs I saw were around 1982 or 83.
