    Hi all,

Wanted to let you all know that with the grand reopening of la Castaneda, which although in itself would be a rail fan event, we in Las Vegas are working on turning it onto a much larger rail fan event. La Castaneda was an AT&SF Harvey House that was built in 1899 and closed in 1948. The grand reopening will occur some time in the later part of 2016, there is just not a hard date as of yet and we rail fans in the city are hoping to make it a week long event. BNSF has expressed interest in supporting it, ATSF 2926 (4-8-4) will be operational by then and is a possibility to attend, hopefully pulling a excursion. We are looking into other Rail Museums attending as well. Las Vegas NM is also the home of the only still standing AT&SF Roundhouse in NM, although the turntable is no longer there the roundhouse still is.

I am working with the Las Vegas city event planner and I will post updates here as they come available. If any know of rail museums and rail excursions that might consider attending please let them know and squirt me an email and I will let the planner know to contact them.

This sounds very interesting. Hopefully someone who attends will be willing to post up photos of your event.

We've been following the restoration of 2926 via a topic here. If she can attend, I'm sure that will be a big plus.

Thanks for the heads-up, Mike. I won't be able to attend, but wish you all success with this event.

Welcome to Trainboard, Mike. Sounds like it will be a good reason to celebrate, and another Harvey House restoration is welcome. Someday I have to visit all of them.
