This morning I added the white stripes to the caboose. Once the caboose decals arrive I will add them. Still need to find a local supplier of flex paint for the handrails.
Harold you shoulds it's not too difficult. I may be doing another yet it all depends if I win another on Ebay
Man that thing looks great I need to get the wheels on mine I just have not had the time to finish it up.
Paul, Look forward to seeing some pics, I won another walthers caboose on ebay today so will do another in the next few weeks.
I posted a pic to the MP modellers yahoo group and was told this is not a transfer caboose so I stand corrected Here is what I was told. "Please do not refer to the SBWs as transfer cabooses. They were classed as and used as road cabooses for most of their service life. The 13xxx nunbering signifies mainline road duty and one was even tested by the Union Pacific in the development of their CA-11 caboose which I've never heard called a transfer caboose. MP built the whole roster of "platform-type bay-window cabooses" as they are referred to in the official drawings. These plans were later revised slightly and copied by the UP for their CA-11, 11A, and 12 class cabooses. Home built in MP's Desoto Shops and finished in the Sedelia Shops, they were the last cabooses built by the Missouri Pacific and lasted into the UP merger. "
Just like my kids. They never would listen to us but believe the same stuff we told them if they heard it from the kids down the street.
Well, if you can't refer to your models by thier proper names, shame on you! . That's excactly the reason I hang around mostly here and the Railwire. Everyone encourages good work and keeps it friendly. As far as your model though, It's great except I noticed two rivets that were not prototypically correct as per the manufacturers blueprints. Seriously, I think your caboose rocks, and anyone that doesn't think so must have been lulled into a catatonic state by constanly flashing EOT's on modern trains.
I second that I sometimes call it a transfer caboose as well I know that is not correct but when talking to another model railroader and you refer to it as a MOPAC transfer caboose they know exactly what you are talking about. Who cares what it is called lets just keep building a whole fleet of these TRANSFER CABEESE Because they are AWSOME.
I must agree with you guys I was a little disappointed with the response, not that i'm looking for praise but there was no mention of the model only that I had caled it a transfer caboose. Russ, Oh I did pay attention to your post lol but I still refer to it as a transfer caboose. No wonder I only post here these days, you cant beat the friendly environment.
No worries! I once asked what was the name of the Espee font on the Espee list and I almost didn't make it out alive!! You have to be careful over there!
Jeez, Guess I'll stay outta that group! Mon Colonel - I think your TRANSFER Caboose rocks no matter what you call it! Keep on buildin'!
I think you were about the 20th person to fall into the trap of referring to "Lettering Diagrams" as fonts. I knew what was coming and felt your pain. Tony T. over there likes to admonish the unwary posters. One must not only communicate but communicate correctly. Each list seems to have a trigger topic. On the ATSF list it was always "Fluted sides verses Corrugated sides" on passenger cars.
Well someone posted on the list "Nice looking, no matter what you call it! Keep on MOPAC MODELING MOPHEAD " hmmm think I know this guy lol
Looks great Paul - whatever it may be called That is why I do not visit some of the specialist forums, they can be very picky - and downright cruel!
Hey Colonel - I kinda doubted it was a MOPAC caboose when I saw it in the gray. . .but WOW!!!! I need one of those too for my trains. I have the Micro-trains caboose, but now you are going to make me build one of my own. It does look very nice. I also saw the response you got on the MOPAC group. Its YOUR caboose and YOUR railroad so you can call it whatever YOU want!!! GOOD JOB!
Thanks Bryan, I also received news today my decals are on there way hopefully it will be finished next week.
Looks good. I have always liked these. I have been thinking of building one just did'nt know what to start with.
