Nothing like uninformed "journalism", eh? Also nothing outlined as to just how to replace Amtrak after it's been "euthanised", no mention of "open access" (which is like Satan to the Class 1 freight railroads anyway), no mention of how setting up trust funds and using taxes derived from railroad sources (such as the fuel tax Amtrak and other RRs have been paying for decades) for infrastructure improvements/maintenance...to reiterate, kill Amtrak and replace it with nothing, since no replacement has been proposed in the article.

Of course, no mention was made of the disproportionate government funding of highways/airports versus Amtrak...perhaps that was too sticky of a topic to really get into? It was fine just to off-handedly mention that the government funds the infrastructure of highways and airports while independent operators handle the trucks/planes/buses, etc., and to mention that the Amtrak/independent railroad situation is, almost literally, the opposite...but to make it the same as the fly/drive mode, then that requires open-access. (Which really doesn't bother me...why not have UP and BNSF in the tri-state area and CSX and NS all over the west coast? Survival of the fittest, right...? Fair competition, right...?!? Problem is, who is going to run the passenger trains when the dust settles...???)
