Looking for some information on this decoder. Want to add a Keep-Alive to it. Looking for the ground. There are 3 pads on the back side of the board and when powered and I check voltage from the blue wire to each one I get, one pad 0 volts, middle pad 7.75 volts and the inboard pad I get 12.5 volts. I am thinking that the inboard pad is the ground. Anyone know if this is correct? Thanks woodone
I would say it is. Did you check the Lenz DCC website for possible decoder details? Check the below site. He has a lot of Stay Alive info. http://www.members.optusnet.com.au/mainnorth/alive.htm Rich
Rich, I have the original documentation that came with the decoder and it does not ID the three pads. I had looked at the information on the link that you have listed but did not find anything about the Lenz decoder per say. Just a bit afraid to hook up a Keep-Alive without knowing for sure that is the ground. I do have a call into Lenz support, but have not heard back from them as of yet. Thanks Jerry
The Stay Alive connects to the output of the full wave bridge rectifier on decoders if you read the link I provided. Get your Optivisor out and ohm meter and do continuity checks. I have done that before. Did you look at the link by Marcus? Rich
Got an answer from Lenz on this. The three pads are identified as, outboard to centre of decoder: U+; Charge; Ground. I am cautioned, however, that while USP may be an undocumented feature on the pcboard of your decoder, Lenz does not guarantee proper operation. I installed a KA2 into these and it does work. Might help someone with the Keep-Alive when using this decoder.
