Kato's Free RDCs

    Has anyone received their 'free' RDC units? You know....you buy one of the sets, and send in the boxtop and $7.00 to cover shipping.

    It has been 4 months wait for me, and I have emailed Kato, phoned and left 3 messages (haven't spoke to a real person yet), and wrote a letter....all to no avail. I had my dealer try, and he got nothing.

    One Kato rep at The Train Expo in Pomona last month said he didn't know what the status of the program was, so he was of no help either.

    What is the problem? And why doesn't a real person answer the phone (or return calls) at Kato?

    It took mine about 6 weeks to arrive. The problem with mine was that I live in a small town that does not have local delivery of mail. Kato sent it to my physical address and the Post Office returned it to them. They then sent it out to my PO Box. The instruction said to include both addresses to ensure delivery but they only put my physical address the first time they sent it. I thought they wanted my physical address because they were going to UPS it out to me.

    I wouldn't give up trying to get your RDC. Make sure you document when you try to contact them so when you do get ahold of a person down there, you can express your displeasure and have the evidence to back it up.

    Well, I've received several emails from people in respose to this question.

    Their experiences in receiving their RDCs range from 'about a week,' to "I'm still waiting."

    Ii guess the thing that irks me most is that I have not received any response from Kato. Except that they cashed my check, back in Mid-December!

    I guess I was one of the lucky ones..I got mine in about 3 weeks. I mailed off my request in mid Dec..got it the first week of January. Kato responded to my email, when I asked for a replacement set of instructions/diagram for one of the RDC's. They sent me a new set very promptly.

    An internet buddy who has a contact at Kato helped me get this situation finalized.

    Kato has shipped a new RDC to me, and I should have it by next Monday.

    In their email, Kato said it was shipped but was either lost or stolen.

    Of course, theu had no record as to when it was shipped, and no record of why none of my emails, letter or calls were acted on.
