Do these need to have the settings changed on the bottom of them when they are attached to stationary decoders.

    Alan:

You don't have to change a thing on the Unitrack turnouts when using stationary decoders.

Just follow the wiring schematic that comes with the deocder you're using.

I went with the Ds52 as you said in adifferent topic on the dcc board. Will have them in about three weeks from today. Just waiting for the end of the month to release the order.

    Alan:

Once you get started with the Lenz 100 system and DCC, you'll enjoy it thoroughly and never look back to the days of analog.

The learning curve is steep, but after one week you'll have all the basic info mastered.

I'm still learning about the fine points of DCC after many years of using the Lenz systems on the JJJ&E.

    Have fun..... [IMG] ;)

Here is something I have been thinking about. I will be using DCC on the upcoming layout (Have had the Digitrax chief system since 2000...just no layout yet:() Do most people control turnouts via DCC? And if so, how does one manage the slew of possible turnouts?

There will be a huge amount of turnouts on my plannned layout. While it would be nice to have centralized control of all of those turnouts as opposed to a never ending row of switches.....how does one keep all of that organized? Isn't it a pain the caboose (sorry) to dial in the address of each turnout decoder just to throw the switch?

Take a medium to large yard for example.....that is allot of turnouts. What is the common practice for controlling all of those turnouts? I guess computer control is one option and something I have interest in but I am looking for a non computer controlled solution to start off with.

P.S. - I love this website.....it is a treasure chest of knowledge [IMG]

    Matt:

I use the LH 100 handheld of my Lenz 1000 system to control the turnouts.

Each turnout is given a number. (1-256). Just plug in the number and the turnout is thrown.

I have 36+ turnouts on the JJJ&E. After awhile you know which number to call up for each turnout.

You could always use the Kato turnout controls if you don't want to control the switches with DCC.

The Kato turnout controls still have to be numbered to remember which control throws a certain turnouts.

Hmmmm, I really do not want a farm of Kato turnout controls either, I guess the best option is to use DCC....and a new throttle. I have the DT100R (Radio) and it would be a paind to use this for turnout control as you have to dial in the decoder address......But I think with the newer Digitrax throttles you can punch in the address like you do with your Lenz. That might not be so bad then [IMG]
