Okay I'm changing my mind about the Super Chief baggage car. The realworld model has footholds (just noticed them) and it doesn't have the fore and aft skirting shown in the Super Chief Model. Kato's Amtrak baggage car (not the smoothside one, but there is another) has the footholds, the doors with the proper spacing but only 1 window per door, black trucks that look right, but the incorrect style and number of roof vents. It also has some corrugation. I know I'm beating this to death. I'm okay with that. I think I'll go dig around Kato's parts list and see what I find.

Those stamps look great. What plans do you have for the other stamps that were on the 2 "show cars"? Also stripes, logos, postmarks, etc.

Again thanks for helping with this.

Joe - what 2 "show cars" are you referring to? The stamps I posted were for what I assumed are the baggage car and the Amfleet one.

The postmarks, 100 year logo, USPS logo, and the black stripes I already have set up on a sheet when I did the P42 decals. Just have to copy them over to a new file sheet. The yellow striping behind the black stripes I took for a Microscale sheet with side sill striping. It's hard to print a good darker yellow on the Alps. It can be done with a combination of overlays and I would need a Process Orange cartridge for that and they are extremely hard to find.

Of the ones I looked at there was probably only 2 that really have a "flying" look to them and one of them was folded over. That one won't be too bad as I can take the white stamp backgound and kind put it over the stamp itself. The roll effect probably won't be there but I will get it as acceptable as possible.

Looking through the stamps, they had ones for GB, San Fran, and Pitt. I can always print you up a Cowboys helmet (even though it may hurt to do it).

bag_car_layout.jpg Here's a shot of the stamps laid out on a smoothside baggage car. The post marks have the wrong cities but it gives you the idea.

JDG, this is just fantastic! Hopefully it's not one of you guys bidding against me on the 'Bay :p
If it is, let me know and I will stop. My bid name might be showing up as m*****e if my guess is correct on how that disguised it.
I am probably going to bash a combination of the Super Chief baggage and the Amtrack baggage, unless I can just swap the frames.
You do realise now, JDG, that if you are willing, you'll be my "goto" guy for custom decal work.

Dedication, attention to detail, just awesome!

A little progress. I got the stamps sized pretty close. Still have to shrink them slightly and put the white background on. Still need to work the postmarks also.

Anyone willing to take on getting the postmakrs figured out (city's, time, dates, etc)?

The KATO baggage get a little busy on the one side. Just not long enough. Anyone worked on the baggage car idea yet?

Resized a few things this evening and I think I have all the postmarks figured out. Anyone want to verify the postmarks?

    Jeff,

They look great. My P42 is waiting in the wings to pull a proper postal train!

This is cool. Now I am kind of wishing I had purchased one of these.

If you are developing a set of decals for DIY operations I would be interested in knowing the price. This would be a cool addition to my collection, a set of DIY Celebrate the Century loco and cars.

Do you have a paint recommendation?

I think Jeff should just take orders, build, paint and decal the cars and sell them as a set. Any objections?

I don't object, so long as you still would have the option to purchase the individual pieces. For example, I'd buy the decals, and the Amfleet car if he had one completely done, but I'd make my own Baggage. As a complete 4-car add-on set though, complete, painted, etc, I'm sure it would sell, but would be a much larger investment on his part, in hopes that enough units would sell.

Here's a pic of the unit I did with the printed decals. As for paint color I used 5 parts CSX Yellow, 5 parts White, and 1 part UP yellow.
