I have a Kato E8/9 that the front truck needs some work. The wheels and metal pickup are not seated in the truck properly. I have never removed a truck from an E8/9. I watched a truck removal video on YouTube but it was a different loco. I thought you could just carefully pull it out, but it doesn't want to come out and I don't want to force it and damage anything. Any advice will be most appreciated. Thanks, John
If its anything like our Kato E5...there is a plastic clip on the top of the mech that goes down the side of the mech. You have to unsnap it to release the truck.
Unless very old, most of the green box E units have a similar mechanism to those shown in this thread https://www.trainboard.com/highball...ect-micro-install-in-kato-n-scale-e8a.112821/ Look at the last two photos in the second post. Note the two plastic grey pieces above each truck (at the ends of the brass strips). You need to first lift those off to expose the trucks. Then you will see the tops of the trucks, which swivel on clips that are over cast-in ledges of the frame. You need to slide the clips over the ledges, and then the trucks simply drop out. Yep, you need to lift off the shell, then take out any board (decoder or light board if DC) and the brass contact strips.
Got the truck re-assembled (took a couple of tries) and installed. The mechanism is for my Life Like GN E7. Thanks again.
