    folks

I have two undecorated Kato C44-9W. As there are no AC4400 available I'd like to paint these two engines for CP Rail. One with the new beaver logo the other one with the dual-flag paintscheme. When I compared the C44 with some images of the real AC4400 I found some differences such as numberboard positions, ditchlights, some of the grills. What do you guys think ? Would you run a C44 as an AC4400 ?

Given a few months Athearn may solve your problem for you! As for the basic question, yes, I would, especially if I could find or fabricate the inverter box on the left side of the cab. You're correct that there are some other smaller differences, but that's the one that most people look for to tell the models apart.

I run a SD 60m as a SD 70m,so I say go for it!Might be better if you could copy that inverter box thingie though....

Texnrails.com painted several of the kato dash 9's in the Cp rail flag scheme. You seen to be in the same boat I am, modeling Cp rail means either A:) you buy an OMI AC4400 (referring to my post prior to this one) or B:) Improvise! I would imagine that the box would not be hard to duplicate, some stock styrene would seem to work, also there is an article in the Nov. Model Railroader magazine that shows how you could make the hand rails from .020 wire. Good luck!

As you could see out of my response to your Overland question I already own a OMI AC4400 painted for CP Rail.

I currently have no idea what this converter box is. Gonna compare the two models again. Maybe I just leave this box off.
