Does one have to take any precautions before running these things on a DCC track. Do I need to install a decoder or will the lights work on DCC without changes? Thanks in advance
If you are talking about the N scale ones, it depends on the light board installed in the car. The older ones with incondecent light bulbs got hot and melted the car roofs on the "standard" 14 volt DCC track voltage. I believe the newer Kato light boards with LEDs will not do that.
Kato has issued new light boards that you can swap out to use with DCC. They've been available for about 18 months. Stay cool and run steam.....
