Kato Amtrak Phase V P42 Genesis & decoder

    I am waiting for a Kato Amtrak Phase V P42 Genesis to come in that is DCC ready. I am looking to install a decoder and see that the Digitrax DN163K0B decoder goes with this. Is this the best choice or only choice or are there others.

    That's a drop-in deocder for that loco. The other choice is to hardwire a decoder in the loco but I don't recommend that.

    Drop-in decoders are much easier and won't give you any trouble.

    I received my decoder and it seems to work pretty good. I have a question about the LEDs. The board I removed an LED in the front and the back but the decoder only has one in the front. Should I remove one from the old boad and sodder it to the back. It could be a challenge to sodder it.
