I love these locomotives, does anyone know how many they made a few years ago? I think someone on here bought everyone of them. I have now 3: #100 #160 #203 I think I want all of them IF possible? How many where there in that release? I am confused by this page. Maybe I only want two I don't have in the picture? https://katousa.com/n-p42/ Maybe this is just the most recent run of them?
I have quite a few of these locomotives and they came in all of the various paint schemes and with quite a few road numbers. Getting them all will be a challenge as some of the Phase 3 and 4 engines have not been produced in a while and the secondary ebay market thinks that means they are worth 3 to 4 times their actual value. The only issue I have found and it is a nit picking a nit more than anything is they are all listed as P42s but the earlier ones are actually P40s There is not much difference really between the 2 engines on the outside, the main difference was the HP and some of the electronics inside, but the Phase 3 engines should be P40s and some of the early phase 4s as well. Like I said it's nits picking nits. These are some of the best running engines I own and since I model Amtrak, I need a bunch for my fleet.
I meant ALL of the recent ones in the photo above. I just need the 2 with the RED arrows and found them from a etailer. Have them in my Wishlist. Now if they are there when I am ready to buy them is a different story. All of those are P42's, correct? Which phase are they? No wonder I couldn't find this decoder in the past I had no idea it has been replaced with a new one? What does Mobile mean? Click To Enlarge! I hope I can get the other two in 2025? You have a photo of your Amtrak fleet? You have all of the recent P42's?
I have all of them except the bloody nose one (the Phase 1 scheme). I never really liked that scheme on anything but the old E-units. You should still be able to get them, I know that PnP Trains has them in stock, they are in a little display case. As for the decoders you may still be able to find a DN163K0A (the K0B works too but it only has a front light) that a store still has in stock, but the 167 number is the new series of decoders. I do not own any of the 7 series decoders yet, but I will soon I have a few new engines that need to be converted.
So 127 is a Phase V light which was a paint job done on a few engines that was not the right color. They were corrected later on with the darker blue. 184 is Phase IV which was used in the late 80's and most of the 90's 161 is known as the "Pepsi can" scheme, which is a heritage scheme, and the actual trains were the Dash 8s that were a stop gap between the old EMD F40PH's and the GE P40s 203 is a special paint scheme for operation Lifesaver 156 and 161 are heritage schemes as well from the Phase I which were mostly originally on the E and F units that were inherited 108 is the short lived Phase VI scheme There is a 100 which is painted dark blue, it's a pretty scheme I dont think it has a Phase as it was a one off. There are many road numbers in each of the regular schemes, if you want to collect them all that will get you a very nice and expensive fleet... LOL I would like more of the Phase IV trains but Kato has not made them in a while, and thus the aftermarket thinks they are worth a mint.
Now I have gone down a Kato Amtrak N Scale rabbit hole. What is this Amtrack experts? Not sure if I like it or not Anyone getting this, comes out January 2025? SC44 back looks strange but makes sense with the coaches. That's not that ACL-42 thingy right? Amtrak Pacific Surfliner https://katousa.com/amtrak-pacific-surfliner
I didn't know the P42's were getting the Phase 7 paint. Or is this a fantasy scheme from Kato. I will own one... or three
... and I will prolly end up with the VIA rail ones too. Just what I needed... More trains... oh wait... I do need more trains.
Did a quick Google Images search and see there are at least 4 P42'a in Phase 7 and two of Amtrak's standard cab GP's used work trains have also been painted that way. It also looks like some passenger cars are getting a new Phase 7 look as well. Guess that's the new standard for everything going forward?
I knew about the passenger cars, and seen a flyer about Kato bringing some Superliners out later this year or next year with the scheme. I will be buying more passenger trains.
