When these cars came out I passed on them because they weren't really suitable for what I was doing and that I was told that they were near-impossible to convert to Micro-Trains couplers.
    Is this true?
I’d appreciate any guidance from anyone who’s done this as I need switching capability.
    Thanks

I cut the old couplers off the trucks and body mounted MT 1023/1025s. It works great.

I love these cars. I put MT's on mine by lightly glueing a polystyrene scrap wedge into the split post that holds the trucks. Learned that from our buddy Verne. That will "widen" the split post enough that an MT coupler will stay on it. A little loose, but works for me.

They are a pleasure to weather because you can take them apart more than, say, an Atlas car.

    Great Cars

I use the 1025s, too, and keep the metal wheels. Great cars.

BTW, this Kato 70T covered hopper car in HO scale is a wonderful car, too. Highly recommended for those with HO. As I remember, it has to be assembled but you don't use any glue; it all snaps together.

There's already a dimple you can drill out to mount the 1025's with the 00-90 screw. Got four of them done that way.
