Here's the most current and most accurate news story I've found: http://www.altoonamirror.com/News/articles.asp?articleID=14068 I also recommend you visit www.rypn.org (interchange) if you're interested in the specific technical details behind the problems on the top sheet of the boiler, the FRA Form 4 calculations, etc. The museum head, his CMO, and some of the best steam folks in the business are discussing it on their forum.
so what I am curious about; Is the boiler the only thing that is causing major problem? and whats the likely hood that ANOTHER k-4 or compatible boiler somewere? a idea i had the other day, this could work, what if they took a regular boiler from another pacific, then when they added the boiler and fire box jacketing, make it look like a the typicall PRR boiler. just some ideas from someone who dosn't know much about boiler resterations.
Most static display locos have cracked crown sheets which is extremely expensive to replace and requires a LOT of work.
