BNSF Longmont Local. Evening shot, in the rain! Southbound BNST freight. Dash 9 on point. The smoker behind is an NS SD40!
Former New Haven RR RS-11, number 1402. This pic was made soon after it arrived at the Danbury Railway Museum. It is still showing its old Conrail number.
This E9 is owned by a private individual, but is on display at the Danbury Railway Museum. New York Central never owned any E9s, so far as I know, but the owner of this one is a NYC fan.
Here's one. Daylight 4449 passing a MRL freight right after coming out the east portal of Mullan Tunnel.
UP westbound coal empties thunder thru the tunnels west of Denver, with UP 6037 bringing up the rear at Tunnel Three:
Keith, Nice shot! BTW, if you hike a little further up the hill, you can get this shot: Since this is a Nosey topic, I'll keep it on topic: Tunnel 4 is behind me, with westbound empties approaching:
Had already waited about 10 minutes before train finally arrived! By then I had enough time to get a couple quick shots and get back to the truck before I started to freeze any farther!! Extremely windy and just as cold!! If I'm gonna do any hiking for better shots I gotta do it when it's a little warmer outdoors! Or dress in layers for the sudden weather changes! Shorts and a T-shirt just isn't going to work for long!
Mountain weather is like that. You're lucky it didn't snow! At that elevation, it can snow any day of the year. That's what I hear about Great Falls as well, strangely...
Also lucky that there was NOT any snow anywhere. Or that I got stuck in said snow, or I'd have a slight problem! Still wanna see if I can get a bumper/grille guard/winch for my truck. That way, I can get myself out of minor situations, or help others if necessary.
That would be a help, as would a traction aiding device in the drive axle--posi-traction, selectable locker, etc. A posi would be best for your application. With the right tires, and traction devices a 2wd truck can be surprisingly capable off-road. That's a whole different (forum) topic, tho!
Wouldn't mind trading in the 3.55 rear end for a 4.11 posi rear end at some point! Depending on cost of course! But then, I know nothing about this kind of thing. :embarassed: Anyway.........it gets me to a variety of train spots, so I'm not gonna complain. Much.
