It might help with Newbie-Posts/Questions if the “New Member Introductions” description was changed to something like: “New members, introduce yourself here and put posts/questions you are unsure of here first.”

[This is just a suggestion for a team that is doing a great job!]

Sounds reasonable as a good idea to me, Bob. I'm sure Charlie will consider it. :)

I think our goal is generally to just have people say hello in the new member forum and then send them off to the right forum for questions about modeling, etc.

I know that a lot of our new members arrive here with questions. It's just that we want the questions to go into the right forum(s) so that we don't get convoluted and start answering model railroading questions in the new member forum.

If a member joins and is willing to introduce him/herself to the community and tell us where they live, etc., that's great. Then, if they have a question about something, model railroading or whatever, we want to send them over to the N Scale Forum (or wherever) and have them ask those questions there.

When we started the new member introduction forum that was one of the things we agreed on; that we would not be spreading out the forum content into that forum.

Example, someone joins and posts, "Hi, I'm Joe. I live in New York, I'm a firefighter, and I am just getting into HO Scale model railroading."

Perfect! We want to welcome him and we hope that many members will welcome him with a greeting. Now, if Joe has questions related to HO Scale model railroading, we want him to ask those questions in the HO Forum.
